The President of NIWT, Spencer Ross, also serves as the Chair of the New York District Export Council and Chair of the World Trade Council of the Long Island Association, the region's largest business association.

New York State, the US Department of Commerce, the US Small Business Administration  and the  State University of New York have honored him for his contributions to Global Education and International Trade.

NIWT was chartered in 1986 by the Department of Education of the State of New York.
